The highest profile arrest was that of Anaudi Hernandez Perez, a fundraiser for the Popular Democratic Party and friend of Garcia Padilla’s family. The arrests come after several citations before a U.S. grand jury in San Juan of several government officials, including Puerto Rico House of Representatives Speaker Jaime Perello Borras.
“This is one more case of graft, greed and corruption that over the last 20 years have contributed to the government of Puerto Rico’s fragile financial condition and on the brink of bankruptcy,” Carlos Cases, a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in San Juan, said in a statement.”
The bad news keeps coming for the governor, who as of now, has yet to announce whether he will seek reelection in the 2016 general elections.
