Queen Elizabeth Starts Jubilee Tour of Pacific

We publish today an old article from The New York Times on the occasion of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The article from February 10, 1977 marks the occasion of the Queen starting her Jubilee Tour of the Pacific, which included a visit to the United States territory of American Samoa.

Queen Elizabeth flew off tonight on a Silver Jubilee tour of CommonWealth countries in the Pacific.

The six‐week trip on a Britisn Airways Boeing 707 jetliner and the royal yacht Britannia will take the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

American Samoa was the only one of the US unincorporated territories that the monarch visited, She passed away today, at the age of 96 after more than 70 years on the throne.
