On August 17, 1924, Margaret Mead arrived in American Samoa to begin fieldwork for her doctoral dissertation in anthropology at Columbia University, leading to the publishing of ‘Coming of Age in Samoa’ in 1928, at the time, the most widely read book in the field of anthropology.
