2023 in the US territories, in context

by | Dec 29, 2023 | Context of islands, Headlines | 0 comments

What a year. Amidst a turbulent year, we were proud to cover the United States unincorporated territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands for another year, this one being our tenth. Our accomplishments were many, from joining groups like Local Independent Online Publishers and the Institute for Nonprofit News to, just recently, being recognized by the New York Times as local journalism worth reading. As we reflect on 2023, here are the top stories for each territory this year:

Puerto Rico

Guam

US Virgin Islands

American Samoa

Northern Mariana Islands

From the entire team at Pasquines, we hope you have a great new 2024. Thank you for your continued support as we cover the context of islands.

Editor’s note: From now until December 31, 2023, all donations up to $1,000 will be double-matched, which means they have triple the impact on our efforts to cover the US territories. Will you help us continue covering the context of islands in 2024? Donate now >
