Eulogio S. “Shawn” Gumataotao announced he has officially accepted the nomination of the Committee to Draft Eulogio S. “Shawn” Gumataotao for Senator. Gumataotao filed the required acceptance letter and documents with the Guam Election Commission making him the 14th member of the Republican Party of Guam to enter the race for Senator in the 38th Guam Legislature.
“In line with 3 GCA § 6107, this letter is to officially advise the Guam Election Commission that I formally accept the candidacy of Senator in the Guam Legislature as submitted by the Committee to Draft Eulogio S. “Shawn” Gumataotao for Senator,” Gumataotao wrote to Guam Election Commission Executive Director Maria I.D. Pangelinan. “Please consider this letter and the required documents submitted with the letter as my formal acceptance of candidacy in the upcoming Primary Election on Guam on August 3, 2024.”
Gumataotao is a resident of Talofofo, Guam, and is currently the managing partner of GET, LLC, a Guam-based HUBZone Certified consulting and specialty construction materials and supplies firm. He is a 1989 graduate of San Leandro High School in San Leandro, California, and a 1994 graduate of the California State University, Bakersfield with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. A former Director of Policy, Planning, and Community Relations for the Judiciary of Guam, former Deputy Chief of Staff to former Guam Governor Felix P. Camacho, and award-winning journalist, Gumataotao is also the current Chairman of the Republican Party of Guam.
“My candidacy is about getting out of my comfort zone and doing what I need to do and step up for our island,” said Gumataotao. “Economic development, crime reduction, elderly services, protecting the family, and modernizing Government of Guam services will be my focus if elected. I will bring my government and private sector experiences to the Guam Congress Building to create common-sense policies that will serve all of the people of Guam.”
The Guam Legislature is a unicameral body consisting of 15 members who are elected at large. Island voters in the US Territory first elected members to the Guam Legislature in 1950.
