With less than a day before voting commences in the 2024 Puerto Rico local primaries, the Pasquines Puerto Rico Poll shows that on the Popular Democratic Party, Jesus Manuel Ortíz (PDP, D) is poised to take the party’s gubernatorial nomination with a comfortable 52.5% of the vote, to Juan Zaragoza’s (PDP, D) 40.3%. This is based on the opt-in online survey conducted between May 22 and May 30, 2024, based on a relatively small sample of 93 respondents who indicated they were registered voters and affiliated with the PDP.
As with our previous polling announcement, we weighed the raw results against the respondent’s previous voting history, specifically the 2020 PDP gubernatorial primary. Despite the small sample, the raw numbers actually gave a sampling of that previous vote that closely resembled the final vote, leading us to believe that this result is fairly close to what we might see once the votes are counted. This result also matches that of other polls conducted in Puerto Rico.
Favorability
With no primary for the resident commissioner nomination, we did ask for favorability ratings within the party affiliates, and the numbers match the gubernatorial polling results. Resident commissioner Pablo José Hernández (PDP, D) garners the highest favorability ratings among the three officials we polled for, trailing only the party itself.
Demographics
In terms of demographics, the results align with the overall results of the poll with one particular distinction: when it comes to age groups, Jesus Manuel Ortíz widely outperforms Juan Zaragoza in the 35-44 age group, and while Zaragoza does better in the 65-74 group, this difference is not enough to close the gap between.

Additional results will be released through the coming weeks on questions involving citizenship, favorability ratings for other parties and officials, and for national elections.
