Google Trends in the US territories: June 2024

by | Jul 25, 2024 | Data, Google Trends in the Territories | 0 comments

Welcome back to our monthly series examining the top Google Trends in Puerto Rico, Guam, the United States Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Trends data is an unbiased sample of Google search data. It’s anonymized (no one is personally identified), categorized (determining the topic for a search query), and aggregated (grouped together). Each month we’ll collect the top topics from Google so you can dig in deeper and learn more about each topic and the levels of interest over time. We will also mention the top rising topics, which are those with the biggest increase in search frequency since the last time period.

This month, we’ve changed our layout to help you compare between rising and top topics in each territory, while also include this graph to compare interest in each territory through the month in the 50 states.

Puerto Rico

Guam

US Virgin Islands

American Samoa

Northern Mariana Islands

The month of June saw the territories largely focused on sports, holidays, and entertainment. There were some standout topics, such as Puerto Rico searching for its electoral state commission given the primaries that happened this month, the US Virgin Islands searching for tropical cyclones as the 2024 hurricane season began, and the Northern Mariana Islands searching for Julian Assange after he was transported to a courthouse in a territory to plead guilty as part of a deal with US authorities.
