Pula and Pulu pull ahead in American Samoa’s gubernatorial race, Amata likely to remain in Congress

by | Nov 5, 2024 | American Samoa, Elections, Polls | 0 comments

In American Samoa, our polling is showing dissatisfaction with the incumbent Governor Lemany PS Mauga and Lieutenant Governor Talauega Eleasalo Vaalele Ale, with only 20% of respondents supporting them, and challengers Nikolao Pula and Pulu Ae Ae gathering a commanding 48% of support. In second place is the ticket of Vaitautolu I’aulualo and Mary Taufetee, with 24% of respondents backing their candidacies. In American Samoa, the gubernatorial election is nonpartisan.

In the delegate race for the territory, incumbent Amata Coleman Radewagen (R) got the support of 64% of respondents. In second place was Luisa Kuaea (D) with 16%, followed by 12% of respondents who said they are undecided. Meleagi Suitonu-Chapman (D) and Fuala’au Tago Lancaster (I) trail behind with 4% each.

In both races, approval voting would not alter the outcome but would give candidates on the lower end in support a boost.

While the sample size for American Samoa was low, the record of Radewagen electorally matches with what could be expected, as confirmed by the favorability ratings for the officials.

American Samoans will be able to vote from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm SST (12:00 pm to 12:00 am EST). We’ll have more polling results and election results once they are published.
