Looking ahead to the context of islands in 2025

by | Dec 26, 2024 | Context of islands, Headlines | 0 comments

If you’re like us at Pasquines, your thoughts have started to drift to next week’s calendar flip. We’re not in the resolution-making business per se, but we do have several exciting initiatives we’re looking forward to making a reality for Puerto Rico, Guam, the United States Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands in 2025. Here’s a sneak peek:

  • Expanding our coverage to include deeper analysis of issues affecting all US territories, from economic challenges to climate resilience.
  • Introducing a storytelling series that follows individuals from each territory to provide a vivid picture of life in these unique communities.
  • Exploring the economic dynamics of how companies treat the territories differently due to their political status.
  • Creating newsletters dedicated to deeper investigative journalism on specific topics involving the territories.
  • Launching a new platform enabling unprecedented civic engagement, facilitating the daily lives of our readers.

Since we’re a reader-supported organization, you have the power to help bring these initiatives to fruition. As a nonprofit, we can pursue accountability-driven journalism without being beholden to shareholders or corporate interests because we answer to you: our community. This independence allows us to provide the context of islands that you’ve come to rely on.

There are only a few days left in our year-end campaign, and we’re thrilled to share that every dollar you donate will be tripled through NewsMatch, thanks to the Heising-Simons Foundation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and Walton Family Foundation—but only until December 31. We’re so close to meeting our goal of $5,000. Will you help us cross the finish line and triple your impact?

We hope you will say to yes to helping Pasquines produce more journalism in 2025! Donate now.

We’re deeply grateful for your investment in nonprofit news and look forward to delivering another year of journalism that shines a light on the issues that matter most to our island communities.
