Ginger Cruz leads poll in Guam’s delegate race

With America’s election day about to begin in Guam, Ginger Cruz (D) leads in our October poll in the race for nonvoting delegate in the United States House of Representatives, with 66.5% of respondents supporting her. Incumbent James Moylan (R) follows her with 26.%, while 3.1% indicated they were undecided, and 3.7% selected none of the above. These results were not weighted; the sample size was also not particularly large, with 161 participants.

Since this race only has two candidates, when asked to vote through an approval voting mechanism, respondents had very similar choices to the initial question, with both candidates registering just 1% higher support from voters.

The delegate seat has been held mostly by Democrats, and Guam is traditionally a Democratic stronghold as well. That said, our sample did reflect a heavy Democratic lean as evidenced by the favorability ratings we received for the candidates in the race and the top two elected officials of the territory. This could be indicative of excitement, although Moylan still has the incumbent advantage after his upset win in 2022 against Judith Won Pat.

Should Ginger Cruz manage to flip the seat for the Democratic Party, the margin between the two candidates will likely be smaller than seen in our poll, as previous results have shown. Polls open in Guam from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm ChST (4:00 pm – 5:00 am EST), after which we expect results to start being released.

We will be releasing additional results from our territorial poll throughout the day, including the results for status preferences in each territory. Our election center will also have the results from election day in the nation and territories.
