In the Democratic stronghold territory of the United States Virgin Islands, our poll predicts that Stacey Plaskett (D) will retain the delegate seat she has held since 2015. With an overwhelming 71.7% of respondents supporting her, Plaskett is followed by Ronald Pickard (R) with 6.7%, 11.7% choosing none of the above (which likely includes supporters of independent candidate Ida Smith who was not included as an option given that she does not appear on the ballot), and 10% saying they are undecided.
Despite the quirks of these results, surprises are unlikely come election day. Democrats have controlled the territory’s government traditionally, to the point that Pickard is the first Republican to run for this seat since 2014.
Looking at favorability ratings, Plaskett stands out as the official with the highest approval. Interestingly, the poll also showed Governor Albert Bryan with higher unfavorable ratings, as did Pickard. Lieutenant Governor Tregenza Roach overall registered better favorable numbers.
In the US Virgin Islands polls will be open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm AST (6:00 am to 6:00 pm EST). We will have results as polls close, along with additional polling information on the issue of status and the presidential elections.
