United States Virgin Islands Governor Albert Bryan Jr. (D) announced a transformative legislative proposal aimed at advancing the Virgin Islands’ infrastructure and community development. “Today, I am excited to announce a legislative proposal that will drive our territory forward,” Governor Bryan stated during a press briefing on November 12, 2024.
The proposed plan includes $76 million in funding for transportation projects through Grant Anticipation Revenue Bonds (GARVEEs), prioritizing major infrastructure initiatives. These include the next phase of the Veteran’s Drive Project, the St. Croix Ferry Project, and critical upgrades to St. Croix’s roads and infrastructure.
The St. Croix Ferry Project, estimated at $20 million, seeks to establish a reliable waterway transit system connecting St. Croix and St. Thomas. In addition, $28 million will be allocated to enhance roadways and infrastructure on St. Croix, addressing longstanding needs and improving quality of life for residents.
“These projects represent progress, connection, and opportunity,” Governor Bryan said. He urged the Legislature to carefully and promptly consider the proposal, emphasizing the shared vision of growth and unity for the territory.
