Hillary Clinton renews call for Puerto Rico assistance

Looking at the thousands of Puerto Ricans living in Central Florida, Hillary Clinton has renewed her call for assistance to Puerto Rico during its economic crisis. The former secretary of state and current democratic presidential candidate first spoke on the issue last year, when Puerto Rico governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla announced the debt was too large for the territory to pay.

“Enough is enough,” she said. “It’s time to put the interest of the 3.5 million American citizens of Puerto Rico first. Holding the future of Puerto Rico hostage to maximize profits for a group of hedge funds isn’t who we are as a nation. We need to immediately ensure that there is a quick and appropriate restructuring solution for all of Puerto Rico’s debt, while respecting Puerto Rico’s autonomy and the democratic rights of its citizens. Puerto Ricans are hard-working American citizens who have fought and died for this country and deserve better.”

This of course will likely have zero impact on anything happening in the GOP controlled Congress. Nonetheless it is good to hear that the issue is being mentioned and brought to the national conversation.
