Google aims to empower individuals and organizations to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals with AI

by | Mar 14, 2023 | Civic and Community Engagement | 0 comments

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were established by the United Nations to address the most pressing challenges facing our world, such as poverty, inequality, and climate change. Google, one of the world’s leading technology companies, has expressed its commitment to supporting the SDGs and has launched a platform called “Global Goals by Google” to empower individuals and organizations to take action toward achieving the SDGs.

The Global Goals by Google platform provides information about each of the 17 SDGs, shares stories of people working towards them, suggests ways in which individuals can take action, and showcases events and partners related to the SDGs. The website is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of their level of knowledge or experience with the SDGs.

In addition to the Global Goals by Google platform, Google has also made available a variety of resources to support the SDGs. These resources include guides, templates, and tools that individuals, organizations, and businesses can use to take action toward achieving the SDGs.

Furthermore, Google is actively seeking partnerships with organizations and companies that share its commitment to the SDGs. The company is encouraging organizations and companies to submit their proposals for partnership, offering $25 million in grants for AI projects that help meet the SDGs. Through these partnerships, Google aims to leverage its technology and resources to support initiatives that promote sustainability, equality, and social justice.

Proposals will be evaluated in terms of impact, scalability and sustainability, feasibility, and data and responsibility. Applications will be accepted until March 17, 2023, at 11:59 PDT. Based on the type of project, Google.org will provide support through a combination of funding, product donations, and technical expertise. The Call for Applications is open to any not-for-profit charity, other not-for-profit organization, public or private academic or research institution, or for-profit social enterprise company with a project that has an explicit charitable purpose.

Google has also taken action towards achieving the SDGs in other ways, such as committing to using 100% renewable energy for its operations by 2030 and investing in projects that promote sustainability and support the SDGs.

Through its Global Goals by Google platform, resources, and partnerships, Google is making it easier for people around the world to contribute towards achieving the SDGs.
