The executive director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA), Luis Dávila Pernas, announced today the creation of the Federico Degetau y González Internship, which becomes the first internship program for university students to develop their professional skills through the agency. The Federico Degetau y González Internship will allow undergraduate and graduate students from institutions in Puerto Rico and the continental United States to participate in the functions and work carried out by PRFAA in its representative role for the Government of Puerto Rico, its agencies, and municipalities before the federal government, state and local governments, and public or private entities within the federal government.

Through this opportunity, PRFAA seeks to promote a space for knowledge exchange among students and mentors within the field of public service in areas such as political science, STEM, public administration, legislative procedure, history, legal studies, business administration, economics, and communications. Through this internship, students will be able to develop personally, academically, and professionally.

“It is our responsibility as public servants to provide the necessary tools to the future generations of leaders that Puerto Rico will have. With the creation of the Federico Degetau y González Internship, we aim for students to understand firsthand the importance of advocating for our priorities in the Federal Capital while expanding their knowledge in topics such as the transition to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, federal health funds, reconstruction, and other disciplines that directly impact Puerto Rico,” emphasized Executive Director Dávila Pernas.

Interested university students must be between 18 and 29 years old, have completed 30 academic credits, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have a class schedule that allows them to be available in Washington, DC, for a minimum of 20 hours per week.

The deadline to submit applications for the program is Friday, December 22, 2023. The Federico Degetau y González Internship will begin on Monday, February 1, 2024, and conclude on Friday, May 15, 2024. For more information, please contact PRFAA by phone at (202) 778-0710 or by email at internship@prfaa.pr.gov.
