AARP highlights 27,491 non-participating registered voters in US Virgin Islands ahead of elections

An estimated 27,491 registered voters in the US Virgin Islands did not participate in recent elections, according to AARP, which has launched a voter engagement campaign urging residents—particularly those 50 and older—to confirm their registration status and make a plan to vote.

The organization framed the figure as a representation of neighbors, families, and communities whose voices were absent when policy decisions were made.

“When fewer people speak up, the problems we care about don’t get quieter — they get louder,” the organization said in materials accompanying the campaign.

AARP, which describes itself as nonpartisan, said the campaign is focused on participation rather than party preference, with particular attention to issues that affect older Virgin Islanders, including healthcare, housing, retirement, infrastructure, and protections against fraud and scams.

The organization noted that residents who have not voted recently may still be registered, and encouraged voters to confirm their status through the Virgin Islands Elections System before Election Day. Residents can check their voter registration status through the system directly.

For those whose registration is inactive or whose information has changed, AARP said updates can be made before Election Day, and that in many cases, residents can reactivate their status at the polls by confirming their address. The organization encouraged residents to decide in advance whether they plan to vote early, by mail, or on Election Day.
