Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló was appointed a member of the Economic Development and Commerce Committee (EDC) of the National Governors Association (NGA) for 2017-2018. Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson will be the new chair of the Committee and Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper will serve as the committee’s vice chair.

The EDC has jurisdiction over a broad range of issues in the areas of transportation, infrastructure, telecommunications, international trade promotion, financial services, science and technology development, and affordable housing.

“The appointment of Gov. Rosselló reflects a bipartisan recognition at the national level of his efforts to transform Puerto Rico’s economy,” said Carlos Mercader, the executive director of the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration.

“It is crucial for us to take part in the national economic discussion and to ensure Puerto Rico is treated equitably in any policy proposal offered by the Trump Administration,” added Mercader.

The appointment comes on the heels of the announcement of the first Invest Puerto Rico Forum, scheduled for September 20-21 in San Juan, PR.

The mission of the Forum is to position Puerto Rico as the most competitive destination within the United States to invest, create, and relocate businesses.
