Fearless Mitch McConnell

This important week’s Weird Political Ad is featuring a name all of us know very well, Senator Mitch McConnell. His role as a Senate Majority Leader has made him one of the faces of the Republican Party.

His political ad, called Commercials features numerous awkward scenes that you would not expect from your average politician. It focuses on McConnell trying to choose a good theme for his political ad.

The first of these scenes is when we see McConnell’s head photoshopped into Van Damme’s body, while he was doing a split between two trucks. It doesn’t end there. Right in the next scene there is a baby asking him to use a talking baby for his commercial. By the way the baby in the video sounds like a 50 year old man. Last but not least, McConnell is poorly photoshopped to a chair and is surrounded by bloodhounds, as proposed by his Famous Director in the video. In my opinion, everything would have been slightly better if McConnell was able to find a better photo editor.

This particular ad was released for the 2014 US Senate Elections. Senator McConnell was able to conquer his Republican State Primary by receiving about 60% of the total votes. Consequently, McConnell defeated Alison Grimes in the General Elections to continue with his seat in the US Senate.

Even though both Grimes and McConnell were given serious amounts of donations, McConnell’s total budget of $30 million was way above Grimes’s $16 million. McConnell received large chunks of money from sources including Goldman Sachs, Blackstone, and JPMorgan.
